The Google Android VS The Apple iOS4(formerly iPhone OS) war has been a much heated war. Although the number of Android users have increased massively the IOS4 is one of the most widely used phone OS so far( credit the fact that there are thousands of APPLE fans out there). Where does Symbian fare in all of this?
Symbian is slowly being neglected by manufacturers because the Android OS phones are selling like hotcakes, Apple has its own OS and Nokia will nix Symbian in its high end N series phones in favor MeeGO.
What is wrong with Symbian anyways? Lack of significant third-party applications might be a major reason for the troubled OS. Iphone and Android have a gazillion apps in its arsenal whilst Symbian also has several, but the lack of pertinent and useful applications may be turnoff for users. Also, the Symbian OS is buggy and lack of constant updates that users are now seeing in Android and iOS make it difficult for users to consider a Symbian Phone.
I think that a major reason why the OS is getting left behind is the lack of hype. Motorola and other manufacturers surround their Android phones with much hype and teasers that consumers get persuaded to try the phone. As for Apple, they have sold thousands of iPhone 4s in less than a month.
