I know that the ASUS EEE PC 701 is the father of all netbooks and using it now is passe but hey if its not broken it is still useful. I have reinstalled and optimized my 701 using several tutorials available on the web and now the old EEE purrs like a kitten(not literaly though). I plan on using it for casual internet browsing, word processing and presentations.
The software that you must install if you have the same purpose as me are:
1. Google Chrome – Google’s browser may not be the most stable but given the 701’s limited screen real estate, Google Chrome gives one of the best usability for netbooks. Once you open the browser it displays your most visited site. The browser meshes well with the interface.
2. Open Office – free, light, similar interface as MS Office and free!
3. Avira- one of the best anti-virus around and its free. Avira also scans and removes malware which really removes the need for you to have an anti-malware application.
This three is what you basically need for resurrecting your EEE PC 701 as they are not resource hogs and will really work on the EEE PC 701’s resolution.
